The .ac Domain

The .AC domain is the top-level domain belonging to the United Kingdom Ascension Island, also known as the Ascension Island, which is located in the South Atlantic. The island with subtropical climate is only about 90 square kilometers big. The United States maintains a spy base at Ascension, which is part of the espionage system of the National Security Agency named Echelon. Currently, the population is just under 900 and mainly consists of employees of those organizations that are active on the island, and their relatives. The largest ethnic group comes from the neighboring island of St. Helena. In addition, 200 people from the mainland UK as well as 150 people from the US live on the island. Ascension Island does not have an indigenous population. Capital of the island is George Town with 560 residents.
